ITINERARY

Aimless wandering around the medina and souqs is an amazing way to see Marrakech, but so is taking a half day official guided tour, in the language of your choice to discover the history, culture and stories that still permeate the ancient walls of this incredible city.

During the tour, your focal point is the central square of the medina Jemaa el Fna, the biggest square in Africa and UNESCO World Heritage site. To its western side is the largest mosque in Marrakech, The Koutoubia. The big square is home to snake charmers, persistent henna artists, Gnawa musicians, acrobats and strangely enough, dentists - a combination that evokes a mix of the bizarre to complete delight.

You will visit Badi Palace, once a lavish, grand sixteenth century complex of buildings, today the whole complex lies in ruins. Enter through its gatehouse and view the remnant of this site, including its gardens and subterranean passages.  Continue onto Bahia Palace, built in the 19th century - a truly stunning space with traditional regal artisana. Experience the breathtaking Saadian Tombs, only recently discovered in 1917 and restored. Because of their beautiful decorations, the tombs are one of the major attractions in Marrakech. Throughout your tour you will pass through the souqs (markets) that weave throughout the medina. Afterwards, you will move North of the medina to Medersa Ben-Youssef, once the largest theological (Koranic) college in North Africa.  Discover Mnebhi Palace, now home to Musée de Marrakech. Be amazed at its wonderful ceramics, jewels, arms, costumes, calligraphy and collection of Judaica.
