DAILY DEPARTURES

BE AWARE

- Many ‘faux’ (false) guides operate in the Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou region of the Sahara where you will visit on the first day of your trip. A ‘false guide’ is someone who will offer to show you an area that you are unfamiliar with and then ask for money. Sometimes, they can be very helpful and informative, sometimes not at all. They are not affiliated in anyway whatsoever with Rouge Travel. In places where gainful employment is very low, this is the only form of work and embedded within Morocco infrastructure - as such - out of the control of Rouge Travel. You can explore these areas independently if you wish.

- The Sahara Desert is isolated and wild and for this very reason, you are probably looking to book this trip - it is an amazing adventure. Please do understand however, distances are far and minibus journeys long (and incredibly beautiful along the way). Facilities in the desert are not the same as in the cities and perhaps this trip is the perfect time to go off-grid - revel in the calm, the unstable wifi and enjoy being part of this majestic part of the natural world. If you really can’t do without your creature comforts or strong, stable wifi - this may not be the trip for you - get in touch with us and we can offer more luxury options which will include great wifi and ensuite hot showers

- Throughout the Summer months it is incredibly hot in the desert. Sounds obvious right? Whilst our minibuses are air-conditioned, there may be periods when the driver turns off the air-conditioning to avoid the engine overheating. This is standard throughout all desert trips throughout the world.

SIMPLY SAHARA MERZOUGA ITINERARY

**DAY 1**

Arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech - you will have the day free to explore the city, relax on one of the many roof terraces that Marrakech is famous for, often with some of the most amazing and frankly random panoramics you will ever experience.

**DAY 2**

Departing early from Marrakech you will descend South and right through the length of the Atlas Mountains at a height of 2260m on the winding Tishka Pass. The views are breathtaking - not only in terms of the physical natural beauty, but you will also see the Berber villages of the Atlas, and the traditional houses and daily lives of the Berber people.

Your first stop is the ancient Kasbah Ait Benhaddou bridging the mountains with the Sahara, before moving on to Ouarzazate - the gateway to the Sahara - where you will stop for lunch. From here, you will make your way to your first night's stop in Dades Gorges where you can relax in the tranquility of the nature that surrounds you.

**Day 3**

Onwards to another Gorge - this time the mighty Todra - where you will spend some time, before heading down to the Sahara that you may only have seen in films. Erg Chebbi are the giant sand dunes that surround the town of Merzouga - a Berber town where you will spend your second night. You will take the traditional method of transport - camel - to the Berber camp in time for sunset, and enjoy an evening of Berber hospitality under the stars of the Sahara.

**Day 4**

Feel free to spend the early morning climbing the sand dunes to watch the sunrise before breakfast and then making your journey up North and once again through the Atlas mountains -  arriving in the bright lights of Marrakech in the evening.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT TIME DOES THE TRIP RETURN TO MARRAKECH?:

The trip returns in between 6 and 8pm depending on the road conditions in the mountains and traffic coming into Marrakech. We advise against onward travel on the return day to Marrakech

CAN I GO DIRECTLY TO FEZ FROM THE DESERT?

YES! In fact, this is a great way to plan your trip. On the 3rd morning of the trip, the minibus driver will drop you at Rissani Bus Station in time for the onward journey to Fez which takes 6-7 hours. You arrive in Fez early evening.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TRIP:

Breakfast, dinner, all transport, accommodation (1st night in a guesthouse overlooking Dades Gorges, 2nd night in the Berber camp), 2 camel treks at sunset and sunrise.

WHAT SHALL I BRING WITH ME?

There is nothing specialist to bring with you. All bedding is provided in the camp. We recommend long or 3/4 length trousers for the camel rides and closed shoes for the Sahara, lots of water (which you can buy on the way)

WILL THE DRIVER SPEAK ENGLISH?

Not necessarily. Our guests come from all over the world so on our group trips, the cannot guarantee that the guide will speak your language. However, in the desert itself and on your stops, the guides will speak English.

CAN I SELECT ANY DATES?

Unless you would like our 5* option which is available upon request, you can select any dates to stay in your Marrakech accommodation, and any date to depart for the desert. Yes, it is THAT flexible

IF YOU FEEL THERE IS A QUESTION WE HAVE MISSED OUT - LET US KNOW AND WE WILL INCLUDE IT HERE!
